Reba’s Family
From Death Row to My Wonderful Forever Home!
Hi there! Remember me, Reba? I’m the smaller girl from the Baldwin Park shelter, the one who was passed over several times until one very special day when someone took a chance on me. I remember the day I was finally rescued like it was yesterday. It seemed like all day long people had been walking right by me, until a very kind man named Tom stopped outside my kennel door to play with me. Tom seemed to really like me; and boy, did I like him too! I began to wonder if he would be the one to bring me home. We played through the door for a little while until Tom got up and promised he would return soon. I was a bit worried, but that was silly because Tom came right back and brought another nice man with him. The three of us went out into the viewing area of the shelter and we had a ball playing together. I knew my days at the shelter were numbered so I tried my best to show them what a good dog I am. I must have passed the test because they decided then and there to take me home! I was loaded up into a crate and we were off for a long drive to Tom’s home.
When we finally arrived I was surprised to see all the other dogs and I learned they would be my new foster siblings while my foster dad, Tom, found the perfect place for me. It was a bit scary for me at first because I did not know how I would fit into the group. Not to worry though because in just a few short days I was playing with everyone and finding my place in the pack. Having playmates around all the time was great fun for me, but it sure was exhausting, so my foster dad decided it would be better for me to be in a calmer environment. That’s when I met Chuck and Jami, my new foster parents who would take care of me until I found my forever home. When Jami first took me home I was ecstatic to see her huge backyard where I could run and play. I even still had a few playmates, although one of them was a whole lot smaller than me. Just a few weeks later I heard Jami talking to my old foster dad about someone who was interested in possibly adopting me. Jami and I loaded up into the car and went to my very first meet and greet where I met a nice lady. Unfortunately she didn’t want a dog as small as I am, even though I did my best to convince her sometimes the smaller girls have the best personalities! Oh well, life goes on! I went home with Jami that day and got to relax for a bit longer until I overheard her talking to Tom again about someone that might have the perfect home for me. Even Jami had to agree that it sounded like a great fit, and so a few short days later I had another meet and greet. Car rides are not always as fun as they should be, especially on that winding Ortega Highway. I got a bit sick in the car and was not feeling my best, thank goodness I got to relax for a little while at my old foster home until Tom, Jami, and I headed to a nearby park to meet the people interested in adopting me. I sure do like those shorter drives a lot better!
When we got to the park I had some time to sniff around and check out my new surroundings until a pair of sisters approached us. I could tell right away that they were nice people, and I really hoped they would like me as much as I liked them! The sisters pet me and gave me lots of love and attention while they talked to Tom and Jami about me. It sure was fun to hear such nice things said about me, I just couldn’t stop wagging my tail. That’s when I heard the sisters say they were very interested in adopting me and wanted to continue the process; boy you can’t imagine how happy I was to hear that! I had to remain calm though because my foster dad Tom said there were still a few steps before I could go home with them. On the car ride home I overheard Tom and Jami talking about what a great fit the sisters might be for me and that if everything went well with the paperwork and home checks I would be going to my forever home really soon! A week later I got to attend my first showcase event with all my old foster siblings. It was really a lot of fun to meet people and get love all day, but I couldn’t help getting excited when I heard Tom and Jami talking about my potential new family again. Tom said that the adoption was going to be finalized that week and I could barely wait for that to happen. Finally the day came for me to go to my forever home. The sisters seemed happy to see me again and I was really happy to see them, and the big backyard they had for me! I got to explore all over the place, and although there were a few things in the backyard that needed to be fenced off so I couldn’t get to them, I was happy to learn this would be my new home. I am so excited to be in my forever home and looking forward to my wonderful life ahead with my forever family.
